A bid to ban free tickets for a Bon Jovi concert in New York this weekend from being sold on the internet has failed - because the city's mayor has refused to enforce strict guidelines prohibiting third party sales. Concert promoters for the Central Park bash threatened to ban black market ticket holders from the event after discovering thousands of tickets were on internet auction sites, selling for up to $1,000. However, according to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, government officials are unable to take any action against the third parties involved. Bloomberg says: "The scalping is just a way of life. I can't tell you it's not worth that kind of money. It's up to you if you want to spend the money. But whatever the scalping laws are, you're going to have to comply with them." A spokesperson for internet auction website eBay, which has housed nearly 400 of the for-sale seats, adds: "We can't effectively enforce third-party contracts. It's up to the event organiser to enforce whatever limitations are placed on the tickets." A spokesperson for Bon Jovi said the band was "outraged" by reports the tickets were being marked up for profit by online scalpers, adding: "This is designed as a free concert, a gift to the city and the metropolitan area, and we expect everyone will join in that spirit." More than 60,000 concert-goers are expected at the concert

Dave Marseli accepts award at US Sailing One Design Symposium - Tuesday, November 20, 2007 CPYC was recently recognized on the national scene by US Sailing. Our club won the One Design Award. This is not about winning races or any specific person. It is about who we are and what we do. This is the second time we have won this prestigious award in 5 years. Dave Marseli, Chairman of Race and Regatta flew out to Columbus, Ohio on Saturday 11/17 to attend the One design symposium and accept the award on behalf of CPYC. After a busy day he presented the award to a proud Commodore, Officers, Governors and a very large crowd of members at the Annual Meeting. TAURID METEORS: The annual Taurid meteor shower is underway and it could be a good show. 2008 is a "swarm year" for the Taurids: Between Nov. 5th and 12th, Earth is due to pass through a swarm of gritty debris from parent comet 2P/Encke. 8/29 I literally almost physically bumped into Paul McCartney as he was being rushed out of the stadium last night. He was within a foot of me. It was just a mass of body guards surrounding him. He came out of nowhere. Lots of celebs last night. Quite the madhouse. Kevin Bacon did a little dance in his seat to Footloose.

A deluge of rain pounds part of Connecticut, causing flash floods and some potentially dangerous situations. Stamford was hit especially hard with reports of over five inches of rain. In some cases, drivers were forced to ditch their vehicles to head for higher ground and others were forced to wait for the waters to subside. "Oh my God, this is crazy. There's no way I can get home now," said Monika Rodriguez of Stamford. "We have a dangerous situation. Manhole covers are off and it's not safe to go through. I know people are upset but they'll just have to wait a little while longer," said Capt. Bill Avalos of the Stamford Fire Department. Wilton, New Canaan and Norwalk were also hit hard by the rain.

DARIEN, Conn.
-- Some business owners in Darien will be in cleanup mode Friday after Thursday night's torrential downpours. The first selectman said at one point the water was 5 feet high on Heights Road at the peak of the storm. Some residents even had to be evacuated. Public works crews are also busy working in Stamford after serious flooding there

STAMFORD - Mayor Dannel Malloy is urging Gov. M. Jodi Rell to declare last week's rainstorm a disaster so residents and business owners can receive federal assistance to help pay for damage. City workers continue to tally the costs, but Malloy estimated residents and businesses suffered millions of dollars in damage and that repairs could cost the city hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Why Give Blood? Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood. But only 5% of the eligible donors in the U.S. give blood in any given year. Despite all medical advances, healthy volunteer blood donors are the only source of blood.

Blood is needed for emergencies and for people who have cancer, blood disorders, sickle cell, anemia and other illnesses. Some people need regular blood transfusions to live.

Many people say they have never given blood because they haven’t been asked. Please, consider yourself asked. The need is real. The need is now.
